Children stand up
Caring for the environment and being commitment to a greener future are something to be cultivated starting from the school. Thanks to local administrations, the project promotes the exchange of knowledge and experiences between schools in Italy and Albania. Its aim is to spread awareness about climate change and what each of us can do to reduce our impact on the Planet.
Adolescents, teachers, trainers and local government officials: everybody can become actors of change. We are working together to strengthen the knowledge of causes and effects of a phenomenon that affects us all closely. Coping with the consequences of climate change is one of the greatest challenges of our time. To face it, it is necessary to start from the education of children, who will be the citizens of the future. This is a project promoted by Save the Children in collaboration with Istituto Oikos, funded by EUKI.
What we do
We are working to promote a multidisciplinary and multimedia educational tool dedicated to climate change. Theoretical contents and practical activities will lead to the design of concrete eco-actions in order to reduce the environmental impact of the schools involved. Moreover, the objective is to promote, in Albania, the active participation of children and young people in political life, in collaboration with local administrations. The initiative involves the municipalities of Milan and Varese and four Albanian municipalities (Durres, Burrel, Peshkopi and Elbasan).
Who we have involved
400 students in Albania (from 10 to 18 years old) and 500 students in Italy (from 9 to 14 years old) will be able to acquire more solid knowledge about climate change. They will also be provided with the necessary tools to adopt more sustainable behaviours, both at school and in everyday life.
100 teachers in Albania and 40 teachers and educators in Italy will be trained and supported in the design of learning activities, through the sharing of materials and experiences with Italian and Albanian colleagues.
Officials from Albanian municipalities and the Albanian Human Rights Commission will receive dedicated training on climate change issues, advocacy and on the impact of climate change on children's rights.
