Istituto Oikos is looking for a Senior Forest Expert for supporting the StrategyMedFor Interreg Euro-Med Project
Location: Remote, with a 3-day in-person event in North Macedonia (Galičica National Park) and potentially Tunisia. Travel and accommodation costs for these events will be covered by Istituto Oikos.
Salary: EUR 10’500 (VAT included)
Contract Duration: Until 30th of June 2026

Job Description and project Background:
Istituto Oikos is looking for a Senior Forest Expert to support the StrategyMedFor project, funded by the Interreg EURO-MED programme. This project, involving 7 partners across 6 Mediterranean countries, focuses on the protection and sustainable management of Mediterranean forest ecosystems, particularly in the Balkan Region. Istituto Oikos leads Work Package 4 (WP4), focusing on the capitalization and amplification of project results. The Senior Forest Expert will play a critical role in the project’s success by contributing to the development of key deliverables.
Main Duties and Responsibilities:
The Senior Forest Expert will serve as a Scientific Advisor, responsible for ensuring the scientific quality and integrity of the following project deliverables:
1. Action plan with technical recommendations for the sustainable forest management in the transnational area of Prespa-Ohrid – Galičica National Park (Greece, North Macedonia, Albania)
2. A 10-year strategy for the Medforval Network leveraging scientific insights from the project’s previous work packages (WP2 and WP3).
The Senior Forest Expert will work closely with our junior forest expert and the biodiversity expert to develop these deliverables.
Essential Qualifications:
• At least 10 years of proven experience in Sustainable Forest Management, especially within Mediterranean ecosystems.
• Experience in drafting strategies, action plans and/or management plans in the forest sector.
• Experience in managing transnational projects.
• Fluency in English; proficiency in other languages is a plus
Experience in the Balkan area will be considered a strong asset
